When we do frozen breedings we are always hoping to produce something special, and with Cassie that’s exactly what happened. The combination of her momma, Hazel to our retired male, Shooter, got us exactly what we were looking for. She reminds us so much of Shooter’s momma, Cali. Cali was one of our foundation females and rightfully so as she produced both Shooter and Maggie, who themselves produced other exceptional dogs in our breeding program like Shock, Breezy, and now Cassie! It’s truly a blessing to see how the dogs of our past are still present in the dogs of our future!
Like her daddy, she is a bird dog with a big nose and amazing smarts when it comes to tracking and pinning down wild pheasants. She handles those wily roosters like a seasoned pro, pointing, tracking, pointing and pinning them down for us to come in and flush! It usually takes dogs years to figure out how NOT to overpressure wild, running roosters, but this young lady figured it out in her first season. She was a joy to watch hunt and definitely reminded us of her daddy, Shooter, as a young dog!
She was a huge asset to Ethan’s SD guiding string on both prairie grouse and wild pheasants. She has also hunted wild birds in Nebraska and Kansas! If she’s as much like her daddy as we expect, she will fly through her AKC Master Hunter passes with ease, as Shooter went 6 for 6. That’s a high bar for obedience and steadiness, but if any pup can do it, Cassie can!
