Grit

We absolutely love Grit! She has been a great addition to our family, guiding string and breeding program! Since she was a little puppy she has retrieved everything to hand both on land and in the water, she pointed her first birds with ease and backed other dogs naturally, as well as she has such a sweet (almost needy for attention) personality.

Grit has been guiding hunts since she was 6 months old. And even though she was just a puppy, she didn’t hunt like a puppy! She put some of the older, more seasoned dogs we hunted with that year to shame, finding and pointing tons of roosters and making some impressive retrieves!

Some dogs have natural ability and some dogs have trainability. Not all dogs have both. Some are very natural, but when it comes to advanced level training and testing they aren’t very trainable, and some dogs are very trainable, but aren’t very natural pointing dogs or retrieving dogs and you have to train them how to do both! But not Grit! She not only had tons of natural ability but also her trainability and her intelligence is incredible. She makes anyone training and hunting with her look good!

As Grit’s hunting and testing career have progressed she has continued to impress. She steadied up for her Master Hunter testing and titling with ease and went through her trained retrieve in less than a week! She throws her amazing natural ability and unbelievable trainability into her puppies. They have been so fun to work with in the field and the water and they all retrieve so naturally it makes training them incredibly enjoyable. We especially can’t wait to see how one of her puppies, Muddy, continues to mature and develop!

Shooter

No dog is perfect… but Shooter comes darn close! He is exceptionally cooperative and intelligent. He is easy to train and handle. In the house he is a dream. He is content to just lay on the rug at your feet, never demanding attention, but enjoying getting loved on and cuddling on the couch when we invite him up. He can be serious and intense in the field and blind, but still has a playful puppy attitude in the back yard!

Shooter’s cooperation and intelligence make him a quick study that is eager to please. It seems like he learns new things in only a matter of a couple training sessions. From his obedience training, to his trained retrieve, to his duck hunting preparation, he definitely picks up on things quickly! Shooter went from heeling on lead to collar conditioned to heel in 1 training session. He went through our trained retrieve process in record time. In only 4 days he was collar conditioned to hold and fetch and was starting lining drills. After only 1 steadiness training session he was ready for his first duck hunt. We went to Arkansas and he sat quite and steady in the blind, actively watching ducks and geese come in the whole time.

In the field, Shooter is tireless. He hunts between 60 and 90 yards and covers ground quickly. Even though he covers a lot of ground, he is easy to handle and a joy to hunt behind. He is a great dog to guide with, he backs naturally, retrieves to hand and you can believe him when he says he found a bird. He hits his points with incredible intensity and paired with his good looks Shooter makes a very impressive and striking dog in the field.

Shooter’s AKC testing record speaks for itself on just how trainable, cooperative and steady he is. Not many dogs out there can pass 6 for 6 Master Hunter braces, but Shooter made becoming a Master Hunter look easy!

All of Shooter’s characteristics are exactly what we are looking for in our dogs. He passes his incredibly sweet, easy going, quiet disposition onto his puppies and his natural retrieving drive shines through as well. We know Shooter is something special and can’t wait to see him reach his full potential!

Gidget

This little ball of fire is one sweet girl! She is all GO GO GO as her registered name implies, but she is super cooperative and sweet in the house as well! She zips around the field covering ground quickly with a very flashy hunting style. In the house she has to follow you around wherever you go and if you sit down for even a second she is either right in front of you waiting for some pets or she has jumped up on the couch beside you or even right into your lap ready for some love and affection!

In the field Gidget is super steady and stylish on point and backs naturally! She loves the water and some days we have a hard time keeping her out of the pond even in the winter! Gidget loves to retrieve and somehow manages to bring back every bumper with a big grin on her face!

Gidgie’s puppies all have her spunky personality and field hunting style as well as her incredible natural retrieving drive. We can’t wait to continue her training and see where this fun loving, get up and go little girl will take us!

Rooster

Steady.

Rooster has machine like steadiness. As a puppy, he was always eager to train and please. That trainability and cooperation allowed us to fly through his Master Hunter preparation. It was almost as if he knew what he needed to do and what we expected before we ever asked it of him. He is one of the steadiest dogs we have worked with and he proved himself by receiving his Master Hunter title passing 6 out of 7 tests.

Not only is Rooster a very steady and dependable dog to hunt behind in the field, he is also a joy to hunt with in the grouse woods. His closer working hunting style, compact build, coloration, cooperation and steadiness make him an asset in the woods that anyone would love to hunt with.

Rooster may be a smaller, more compact male, but what he lacks in size he makes up for in style. He is a well-built dog that likes to point with tail high and paw tucked, which is always fun to take photos of in the field.

He is a great house dog with a friendly personality and gets along great with other dogs!

Allie

This sweet girl definitely combines the best of both of her parents, Snap and Shooter.

She has Shooter’s happy, easygoing, everyone is their friend mentality. And Snaps sweet, great in the house, put herself to bed in the evenings personality. She is affectionate and loves attention, like her mother, but can be just as content laying on the floor chewing on a bone, like her father. Putting all of these traits together make her a wonderful part of the family.

Add to her great temperament and disposition, her incredible natural ability in the field and her determination; she really is an all in one dog! She has been pointing birds, swimming for retrieves, backing naturally, and helping guide bird hunts since she was a little puppy!

We have been very happy with this sweet girl and can’t wait to see where her incredible natural ability takes her!

Vex

"Light Switch"

We have had dogs in the past we thought we could describe this way, but after having Vex none of them compare. He moves through the field with a fast and flashy pace but is a breeze to handle. He has the independence to push out and make a cast where no other dog has covered ground, but also has the cooperation to pin down and hold a covey of quail until you get there to work them. He checks back in while hunting and doesn’t run off on his own and get lost! Then after the hunt he comes back in the house to settle down and lie on his dog bed or cuddle on the couch.

His "switch" doesn’t only refer to his on in the field off in the house disposition, it transfers right into his versatility as well. He has class and ease of handle in the field that combines with power in the water and water-retrieving drive that could put your buddy’s lab to shame! His ease of handling in the field carries over to the blind as he sits steady, patiently waiting with no obnoxious whimpering or indecent whining. He has always marked dead birds well and has a great nose for tracking cripples!

Since he was an 8-week-old little pup he has been obsessed ducks. He loved to chase them up and down the duck pen barking! This was very cute, but did worry us that he may have a little too much prey drive, and it may affect his field work down the road... but once he hit the field he pointed the first bird we ever put him on! He scent pointed it like a pro and held until it flushed.

Most people that have had bird dogs or hunted with bird dogs have experienced that one dog that just had a knack for finding wild birds. Up until Vex, our go to dog had always been his sire, Nix. But during Vex's first full season as a mature dog we got the opportunity to hunt him with his daddy. It was then that he truly started to shine showing his dad up quite often toward the end of the season. Watching him is a true pleasure! Sometimes he would make a push that really seemed unlikely to produce birds and then his beeper would sound off signaling his success. If we are hunting and guiding and need to find birds, we can always rely on this boy to come through!

As a full time training operation we work with a lot of great dogs in all breeds. This gives us the perfect opportunity to see what a natural, willing to please, and easy to train dog is like and Vex is off the charts. He picks up on any new training so fast it as if he is reading the book ahead of class so that he knows the answer the first day we start. He is mentally tough and can handle new and different situations with ease.

We have absolutely loved living with, hunting behind and training Vex. He loves tearing up the dessert for quail and searching the north grouse woods as well as hunting everything in between. Then he comes in the house and finishes the evening curled into the tightest little ball at the foot of the bed sleeping there until you force him to get up in the morning.

In the litters he has sired we are seeing excellent family oriented versatile companions that have a ton of their father in them! He is everything we could hope for from a Standing Stone GSP.

Muddy

Impressive.

Muddy has been such an impressive dog ever since we picked her out of Grit's first litter! She has always been so sweet and well behaved in the house! Even as a little puppy we were impressed with her livability! She wouldn't make a peep in her crate and never had any accidents, even when we would hit snooze on our alarm clocks, she wouldn't make us get up!

She has continued to impress us with her incredible natural retrieving and pointing abilities! A lot of dogs that have as much prey drive as she does to make retrieves, lack pointing and backing instinct. This was definitely NOT the case with this girl, she has done it all right from the beginning! She also has so much personality that taking her hunting you can't help but get a big smile on your face as she tears out into the field with a bark of joy!

She was also incredibly easy to train, which made preparing her for her AKC Master Hunter Tests so easy! It's always impressive to work with a dog that has so much natural ability and trainability, as well as mental fortitude to handle advanced levels of training and testing at an early age. All of the things that impressed us about this special girl, culminated with her finishing her Master Hunter title at the early age of 18 months!

With as impressive as Muddy has been, we can't wait to see what her puppies will do!

Rogue

This little girl loves to work! She is always so focused and ready to train! Even as a small puppy, during her live training videos, she gave us so much focus and picked up on everything we were teaching her so quickly. It probably looked like it wasn't the first time we had worked with her on each different behavior. But it WAS! She just made us look that good ;) or that what we were teaching her was just too easy!

Rogue's incredible ease of training and willingness to work for us has made her one heck of a hunting dog! She is a natural retriever that loves to play fetch, but is also super steady and stylish in the field. Her willingness to work for us makes her so cooperative in the field. We are definitely a team out there hunting; working together for a common goal... BIRDS!

Though she may be small, she definitely makes up for her size with heart! She will hunt all day for you and then ask for more! This determination and her love to work makes her an asset on our guiding string as well as a force in the water! Rogue has a perfect balance of water love and field performance. As she continues her training and hunting career she is going to make an amazingly versatile hunting dog!
